News from the E-world in Essen!
As part of the enera project, EWE AG and the European power exchange EPEX SPOT have signed a pioneering cooperation agreement.
The aim of the three-year cooperation is to introduce a local market platform to prevent grid congestions and, in short, to revolutionise the current energy market.
The digitization of the energy sector enables network operators to access the flexibility sources of consumers, generators and storage systems, identify local bottlenecks and address them efficiently.
In order to further advance this process, EPEX SPOT and EWE together with the enera project partners Avacon Netz, EWE NETZ and TenneT will develop a clear and transparent market mechanism for the flexibility providers.
According to Jean-François Conil-Lacoste, CEO of EPEX SPOT, this is "an important and concrete milestone for the integration of renewable energy sources and the commitment of consumers and producers to the end user".
As part of the cooperation, a two-year demonstration phase will take place in the enera model region from 2019. The findings from this should be used as the foundation for a much broader implementation of the concept.
Stefan Dohler, CEO of EWE AG, is pleased about "an important step towards realising an intelligent market mechanism[...]" and is convinced that the demonstration in a fully digitized energy system with 100% renewable energies will pave the way for the energy market of the future.
Further information on the cooperation between EWE and EPEX SPOT can be found in the following press release. You will also find us at the E-World in hall 2, booth 410, if you have any further questions. We look forward to seeing you!
